Vern Skovpen (b. 2002) is an artist from Sacramento, California, where she lives and works. She studied under Margarita Chaplinska in Sacramento (2016–2020). Skovpen's work examines memory, nostalgia, and self-discovery, turning overlooked imagery into something new and lasting. Her paintings often function as isolated fragments drawn from the past, shaped by childhood memory and inherited symbols.

Working primarily in oil and incorporating antique textiles such as lace, alongside acrylic and airbrush technique, Skovpen builds layered compositions through multiple material approaches rather than a single painting process. These material choices carry their own delicacy and history, helping ground personal memory in themes of innocence, simplicity, and the passage of time. While earlier work engaged fragmented portraiture and abstractions of facial features, her recent paintings turn toward isolated figures and moments drawn from the past — exploring nostalgia, joy, and the reclamation of a childlike, unguarded way of seeing.
